Hello CannaConnection!

This year, I am planning to start growing cannabis outdoors for the first time.

What is the best time to start your outdoor grow? I understand this depends a lot on where you live, but is there some kind of general rule for this?

Cheers,

Big Bud.

Hi Big Bud,

You are right about that it of course depends on where you live. More accurate would be saying that it mostly depends on the climate you plan to grow in.

Plants grown outdoors in Europe usually enter flowering somewhere around August. If you start growing in May, this should allow enough time for proper growth.

As for planting, you can start as soon as night temperatures are above 12°C/50°F. The recommended daytime temperature is 18–28°C/64-82°F.

In Europe for instance, it would be advisable to not start growing outdoors before April, unless the climate you live in is really warm and you know that the weather is not going to suddenly change.

Another option is to start some plants indoors in pots and transport them outdoors later in the season when conditions allow.

This way, you will be ahead of the time frame offered by nature. Remember that plants are very fragile throughout the first 3 weeks after germination, so be sure to create as comfortable conditions for them as possible. It is all about a healthy start.

Good luck!
