Check out this documentary from the BBC about Ali Shamas, one of the largest hashish producers of Lebanon.

To be honest, we must admit that we do not know much about Lebanon. A known fact is that Lebanon has Israel and Syria as neighbors, and that - above all - Lebanon is most famous for the production of high-end hashish. Lebanese hashish is and has been very popular in Europe since the seventies, but it isn't always easy to get.

The production of cannabis is illegal in Lebanon, but despite this, hashish is produced on a large scale. Because of the corruption and war in this region, the detection and persecution of producers of hashish is far from a priority for the Lebanese Government.

Especially in the east of the Bekaa Valley, the production of hashish is a popular source of income. The BBC got on an airplane and made this documentary about Ali Shamas, one of the largest hashish producers of Lebanon.
