We are almost at a point where you could say that cannabis use is getting too mainstream and being abused by Hollywood and mainstream TV.
Therefor it is a welcome surprise to see a TV show that paints a very compelling picture of a New York weed dealer and his clients in “High Maintenance”.
On the contrary to over-the-top stoner-sitcoms like “Disjointed”, that mostly make fun of cannabis users, “High Maintenance” revolves around normal people and shows the city of New York through a variety of these ordinary people (who happen to be cannabis users) and a weed delivery guy, simply called “The Guy”, who drives around the city and enters their lives and houses as he delivers them weed.
His clients vary from doctors, to lawyers, to hipsters, to parents, to cancer patients, to well, normal people like you and me. It is nice to see how fresh and deep the material of the half hour shows is, as the stories are not just revolving around weed and, although it is a comedy, can even get pretty serious by digging a bit deeper into the lives of the different characters.
The clever and talented writers of the show, Ben Sinclair, who also plays “The Guy”, and his wife Katja Blichfeld, first launched the show in 2012 as a web-series. The show was then picked up by HBO in 2016 with 6 fantastic episodes shining their light on the diverse and eccentric people living in the sometimes-dark smoke of New York.
Season 2 of "High Maintenance" will premiere in the beginning of 2018 and we personally can’t wait to see how The Guy and his people are doing.
