The cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis for recreational purposes are illegal in Lesotho.
Cultivating marijuana is not illegal in Lesotho and the country is said to be the main supplier of cannabis in South Africa. This is however done illegally as possession and the sale of cannabis is illegal in Lesotho. Cannabis is widely used under the locals and is not hard to find.
Although law enforcement is mainly interested in fighting illegal trade and export of cannabis, any kind of possession might technically still get you in trouble with the law.
Lesotho’s Green party’s presidential candidate Peter Sinkamba has announced plans to legalize marijuana so Lesotho can benefit from its export, but so far nothing has changed.
